FF + REW 60:00 (REVISITED)

FF+Rew 60:00 had its world premiere in 2005 and grew out of extensive and in-depth research into fear and shock; a maniacal dissection of one the most important emotions that lie at the basis of Ann Van den Broek’s unique movement language. Looking back, this production contains the seeds of the many elements and themes that characterize her later work, such as processing and translating emotions into a physical language, as well as linking those emotions in pure, abstract movement material to theatrical elements. You could say that FF+ Rew 60:00 is the foundation of her oeuvre, in which you discern an announcement of things to come.

For Van den Broek, this reprise looks back on the past, revives it, in order to look to the future from that ‘angle’. In that sense, the reprise is also a curious look into the past, a road traveled before. And now, after twelve years, she revisits this powerful and dynamic production.

FF+Rew 60:00 (REVISITED) shows five performers in an alienating universe where every notion of time place and space are undermined. Their situation erupts from an emotional or physical blow, a moment of astonishment. They’re dumbfounded; the blow is etched into their memory. Their movements are determined by a physical dialogue, turning away from something, returning to it. Bodies seize up. Bodies in overdrive. Arne Van Dongen’s music was created parallel to the choreography. His composition grew out of all the possible and impossible sounds that come out of a double bass, which were then enhanced and edited by a computer.

FF+Rew 60:00 was selected for De Nederlandse Dansdagen (Dutch Dance Festival) as one of the most important productions of the 2005/2006 season.
