Mirlitons - Aymeric Hainaux & François Chaignaud (2023)

Mirlitons,
it is a kind of flute for children,
it’s a doggerel,
it’s a Louis d’or coin marked with the value 2,
it’s a military headgear,
and it is also a pastry (a cream roll).

Aymeric Hainaux draws, writes poetry, human beatbox is his most powerful practice because it is immediate, simple and radical.
François Chaignaud’s creations are based on encounters that hybridise practices : singing, medieval or baroque musical repertoire, urban dance and sacred arts. The result is Mirlitons, a mischievous space for listening and challenging.

” The scene is an arena. Two masked bodies, martial, unrecognizable, humble, and rattling. Microphones, loudspeakers, risers, bells, shoes. A ritual of presentations, a confrontation, a knot, a denouement. A total saturation of frequencies and muscles: a therapy through excess. Bodies and sounds torn between the melancholy of vanished rituals and the aggressiveness of actuality. Lips and heels in search of a forgotten code. A gracious and enduring duel of beatbox and percussions: a wall, a halo, an ancient world lost in the face of toxic perspiration, buried in the two fighters.”
François Chaignaud, november 2022
